Kiera and Simone here - picking up on our way out of Munich to Fussen. We got to see Disney castles!! After a short drive to Fussen, we took a shuttle up the mountain to the blue and white Neischweinstein Castle with our friends. We climbed for a while and then got our first close-up view of the beautiful castle. What’s so cool about this Castle is that it was built in the 1840s, so it’s the newest castle we’ve seen. King Ludwig II of Bavaria (which Munich is the capital of) built it along with two others for him to live in, but unfortunately he died before he could live in it. We found out the hard way that you weren’t allowed to take pictures, so you’ll have to take our word for it that the inside of the castle was spectacular!
From the castle we headed to our awesome hotel right on Lake Constance. Simone, Kiera and Ryan picked up dinner in the square and luckily missed the downpour that happens often here, though some of our friends didn’t. We learned that Konstanz was the place to be on a summer Friday night. The small streets were flooded with partying people even after the loud thunder and bright lightning began. There was good music and in the center, a policeman next to a few pipes that had been shaped into a pull-up bar and people from the age of 3 to 50 were participating in competitions with family and friends two or three at a time - if you held on for a minute and the German countdown then you would get a free beer if you were an adult and nothing if you were a kid.
The next day we headed across the lake on a ferry to Meersburg. We explored the town and the cool Meersburg castle and had a lovely lunch at a vineyard right in the town! The vines were growing on a hill at a 90 degree angle that led to the water. We headed back to the playground near our hotel for some fun before dinner. Fourteen of us had dinner at a Spanish place in town and the kids colored while they ate tapas. We had a nice night stroll to a lit up Ferris wheel that Kiera spotted near our hotel.
The next morning we loved the hotel breakfast buffet - so much yummy food while sitting on the lake. After another visit to the playground and peddle boats on the water, it was time to head out. It was so fun spend time with our friends and explore this new place. Thanks for a fun couple of days, Konstanz!
